DESCRIPTION:Northwest Oklahoma is gearing up to celebrate 250 years of America’s independence\, starting this weekend. Here are some of the towns slated to have firecracker fun and freedom festivals: \n  \nALVA—Alva Rotary Club and the city of Alva will host the 62nd annual Fourth of July Fireworks Extravaganza on Saturday\, July 4\, at Alva Recreational Complex near Woods County Fairgrounds. But the festivities kick off with a free pancake breakfast at 7 a.m. during the fishing derby at Hatfield Park\, followed by family-friendly games from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.\, a cornhole tournament\, train rides\, and a free hotdog lunch. First 200 kiddos swim free at Cory Washburn Family Memorial Pool that afternoon. \n  \nARNETT—Arnett Firefighters Association will host Arnett’s annual Fourth of July celebration at the city park on Saturday\, July 4\, starting at 10 a.m. Lunch is at 11:30 a.m. and there will be family-friendly games and activities all day\, wrapping up with fireworks after dark. \n  \nBEAVER—Beaver County Chamber of Commerce will host Red\, White & BlueSage from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday\, July 4\, in downtown Beaver. The afternoon includes live music\, carnival-themed booths\, and a free lunch. Attendees are then encouraged to drive over to Forgan for the evening festivities. \n  \nBILLINGS—Billings Volunteer Fire Department will host Billings’ Fourth of July celebration downtown on Saturday\, July 4\, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Day includes a parade\, turtle and sack races\, cornhole\, a most patriotic dressed contest\, vendors\, and lunch with burgers\, hotdogs\, and watermelon. \n  \nCANTON—The town of Canton will celebrate with its annual Freedom Fest on Saturday\, July 4\, from 6:30-10 p.m. at Canton Public Schools’ Tiger Stadium. There will be turtle races\, an egg throw\, sack races\, an obstacle course\, water games at the massive inflatables\, prize drawings\, and of course\, fireworks at dark. \n  \nCARMEN—Carmen’s annual 5th of July celebration will be held Sunday\, July 5\, at Carmen City Park. Day includes family-friendly games and activities\, live entertainment\, vendors\, BBQ at 5 p.m.\, raffles hosted by Carmen Fire & Rescue\, and ax throwing. Fireworks start after dark. \n  \nCHEROKEE—Cherokee Main Street will host the Fourth of July celebration on Saturday\, July 4\, at Cherokee City Park starting at 9 a.m. Festivities kick off with pickleball and cornhole tournaments at 9 a.m.\, lunch at 11 a.m.\, plenty of family-friendly games sponsored by local organizations\, bounce houses\, and a free swim starting at 1 p.m. That evening at the Cherokee High School sports complex will be turtle races\, concessions\, and raffles\, concluding with fireworks after dark. \n  \nCOVINGTON—American Legion Post 190 will host Covington’s Fourth of July BBQ with free pulled pork sandwiches starting at 6 p.m. Saturday\, July 4\, at Covington City Park. Everyone is asked to bring potato salad and homemade desserts. \n  \nDACOMA—Dacoma Volunteer Fire Department will host its 3rd of July Blowout on Friday\, July 3\, in downtown Dacoma. Festivities include dunk tank\, bounce house\, wagon rides\, turtle races\, food trucks\, and a silent auction. Fireworks show begins at dark. \n  \nDEER CREEK—Local shops in downtown Deer Creek will celebrate America’s 250th birthday with store specials on Saturday\, July 11\, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. \n  \nDRUMMOND—Henry’s Corner Store and The Brake Room will host Drummond’s Fourth of July celebration on Saturday\, July 4\, downtown. Kids’ activities kick off at 3 p.m. with the petting zoo\, face painting\, bounce house\, and water slide. There will be live music\, drawings\, and a hotdog and hamburger feed with donations benefiting Drummond Fire Department. Fireworks show is at dusk. \n  \nFAIRVIEW—The town of Fairview will celebrate with Red\, White\, and Boom on Friday\, July 3\, at Specht Park starting at 4 p.m. The family-friendly festivities include a parade\, food trucks\, a hotdog eating contest\, cornhole tournament\, turtle races\, sidewalk chalk contest\, cardboard boat race\, and live music. The night concludes with the annual pyromusical fireworks show. \n  \nFORGAN—Watch floats race in Forgan during the Fourth of July Parade and Flamazing Race from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday\, July 4. Check with Beaver County Chamber of Commerce for details how to participate and download a map. Fireworks will follow after dark at Forgan Public Schools’ softball field. \n  \nFREEDOM—While no Fourth of July celebrations are planned in town\, the Freedom Museum in downtown Freedom will celebrate its 50th anniversary on Saturday\, June 20\, from noon to 5 p.m. and dedicate its newest exhibit on Turkey Springs. Freedom is known for the Battle of Turkey Springs\, which occurred approximately ten miles northeast of town in 1878; the engagement was the last known encounter between U.S. Army cavalry and American Indians in Oklahoma\, according to Oklahoma Historical Society. Following the anniversary party\, Cimarron Saloon across the street will host an evening of karaoke with no cover charge starting at 8 p.m. and Freedom Chop House also across the street will host live music by Joey Dean from 9-11 p.m. \n  \nGARBER—Garber Community Improvement Association will host its annual Fourth of July celebration on Friday\, July 4. The Freedom 5K kicks off at 8 a.m. Everyone is invited to a free swim at Garber Pool that afternoon with festivities beginning at 5 p.m. at Garber High School’s softball field. Games include a wheat dig\, tractor pull\, turtle races\, bounce houses\, volleyball\, cornhole\, and water balloon toss\, with Garber FFA operating the concession stand. Youth softball will be held at 10 a.m. with adult softball at 5 p.m. A fireworks show concludes the event at dusk. \n  \nGOLTRY—The town of Goltry will celebrate America’s 250th birthday the weekend after Fourth of July on Saturday\, July 11\, in Goltry Park. Ongoing activities through the afternoon include a flea market\, bounce houses\, and kids’ activities. Starting at 6 p.m. are the “Touch the Truck” event whereas emergency vehicles will be on site for families to explore and a car show where every vehicle is welcome. Supper is at 6:30 p.m. at Goltry Gym followed by a special ceremony for military members\, live music\, and fireworks at dusk. \n  \nGUYMON—Guymon Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Fourth of July celebration on Saturday\, July 4\, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Thompson Park along Sunset Lake. Festivities include owner and animal patriotic contest\, hotdog eating contest\, kids’ bike parade\, craft time\, live music\, jalapeno eating contest\, and a watermelon feed. Guymon Fire Department will launch fireworks before 10 p.m. \n  \nHENNESSEY—The town of Hennessey will celebrate Fourth of July early on Thursday\, July 2\, with its inaugural Freedom Fest at Hennessey High School’s football practice field. Activities begin at 6 p.m. and include plenty of family-friendly activities\, vendors\, live entertainment\, vendors\, and free hotdogs. The parade starts at 7:30 p.m. and the hotdog eating contest at 8 p.m.; register at Hennessey Town Hall. Fireworks conclude the event at dark. \n  \nHILLSDALE—Hillsdale’s Fourth of July celebration will be two days filled with fun. On Friday\, July 3\, the party begins at 6 p.m. at Hillsdale Christian School with supper\, a homemade ice cream contest and social\, followed by a 3-on-3 basketball tournament\, lawn games\, and bingo. Hillsdale Booster Club is hosting a movie in the park at 9 p.m. On Saturday\, July 4\, the day begins with breakfast at 7:30 a.m. followed by the national anthem at 8 a.m. and Hillsdale Booster Club’s annual Firecracker 5K and Fun Run downtown. Parade is at 10 a.m. with turtle races and games in the park afterwards. Lunch is at 11:30 a.m. Cornhole tournament starts at noon. Compete in the quiz bowl in the Hillsdale Christian School gym from 3-5 p.m. Supper is at 5:30 p.m. with cake walk at 6:30 p.m. and dessert auction at 7:30 p.m. Learn the history of America at 8 p.m. with “Celebrating 250: A Look at the Journey.” Fireworks will conclude the celebration at dark. Note all meals are by donation. \n  \nHUNTER—The town of Hunter will host a Fourth of July Parade at 9 a.m. on Saturday\, July 4. Participants are encouraged to meet up at the post office downtown with their wagons and bikes. \n  \nLAHOMA—The town of Lahoma is celebrating the Fourth of July early on Saturday\, June 20\, from 9 a.m. to midnight at Lahoma Community Park. There will be a car show that includes bikes and antique tractors\, various vendors and food trucks\, bounce houses\, and turtle races. The alumni baseball game is at 1 p.m. and fireworks kick off before 10 p.m. \n  \nLAVERNE—Laverne Chamber of Commerce will host the Fourth of July celebration commemorating 250 years of freedom on Saturday\, July 4\, at Laverne Municipal Park. Day starts with a pancake breakfast\, followed the parade at 10 a.m. Other activities include flag ceremony\, family-friendly games\, volleyball\, horses\, bingo\, horseshoe tournament\, and golf scramble. That evening beginning at 5:30 p.m. will be a BBQ supper\, homemade ice cream\, and live entertainment\, concluding with fireworks after dark. Downtown businesses will open the day before on Friday\, July 3\, from 6:30-9 p.m. with special offerings during the Third on Main event\, which will also include a lucky duck race\, cornhole tournament\, and a hotdog eating contest. \n  \nMEDFORD—The town of Medford will host its annual Fourth Fest early on Friday\, June 26\, at Medford Airport. The national anthem will kick things off at 6:30 p.m.\, followed by a flag raising ceremony and recognition of military veterans and active-duty personnel. Free hotdog meal will be served. Activities typically include ax throwing\, a hotdog eating contest\, cupcake eating contest\, most patriotic dressed contest\, turtle races\, and tons of games for kids. Fireworks start at 10 p.m. \n  \nMOORELAND—The town of Mooreland’s annual Independence Day Celebration is slated for Saturday\, July 4\, at Mooreland City Park. The day’s family-friendly activities include cornhole softball and volleyball\, a free BBQ lunch\, turtle races\, and\, of course\, fireworks after dark by Mooreland Fire Department. \n  \nPOND CREEK—Pond Creek Community Partners and Pond Creek Fire Department will host Fourth of July celebration on Saturday\, July 4\, at Grant County Fairgrounds starting at 7 p.m. Evening includes kids’ activities such as a water slide and turtle races\, food trucks\, and vendors\, concluding with fireworks at dark. \n  \nSHATTUCK—Shattuck Chamber of Commerce will host Firemen’s Fourth of July on Saturday\, July 4\, at Shattuck City Park. Festivities begin with a 5K at 7 a.m. Turtle races start at 10 a.m. and the cheerleaders will sell burgers and hotdogs beginning at 11 a.m. Afternoon includes a cornhole tournament\, free swim\, helicopter fly-in\, and watermelon eating contest. The firemen BBQ feed starts at 5 p.m.\, followed by live music and ax throwing. The evening concludes with fireworks at dark. \n  \nWAKITA—The town of Wakita will celebrate Fourth of July on Friday\, July 3\, at 6 p.m. at Wakita Community Health Center. There will be plenty of activities for the kiddos including a bounce house and turtle races with fireworks concluding the event. \n  \nWAYNOKA—Waynoka Main Street will host the Independence Day Festival on Saturday\, July 4\, starting at 5:30 p.m. at Waynoka Rodeo Grounds. There will be family-friendly games including bounce houses\, an old-fashioned potluck supper\, entertainment\, and various vendors on site. Waynoka Fire Department will launch fireworks after dark. To help fund the event\, Waynoka Main Street is hosting a Bingo Night on Saturday\, June 20\, from 6-8 p.m. in their building downtown with pulled pork sandwiches for sale starting at 5 p.m.; all proceeds benefit the annual festival. \n  \nWOODWARD—Woodward Convention and Visitors Bureau will host Home of the Brave Festival on Saturday\, July 4\, at Crystal Beach Park. The festival begins with a fishing derby and sidewalk chalk art contest in the morning\, waterpark and mini golf in the afternoon\, games\, contests\, and music in the evening\, and concluding with fireworks at 10 p.m.
